Is time keeping you from the career you want?

When people apply for our free, brutally honest career critique, many say their biggest struggle is finding the time to improve their skills. A frequent reason given is the number of hours required at work.

If your job requires so much time, you only have time to go to bed to get up to do it over again and evaluate your job's value for your future. Consider a job that allows the time you need.

Many times, the "not enough time" reason isn't accurate. The problem isn't a lack of time; it's prioritizing your time. Consider the same approach people attempting to lose weight use, so discover where your extra time is hiding.

Food journals track everything someone eats. Use the same tactic to evaluate how you allocate your day. For a few days, document everything you did each day. Then rank the importance of each action.

Was it necessary or discretionary? Work, sleep, eat, and taking care of family are required. Browsing the Internet, social media, or TV is discretionary.

Even people with massive necessary time-eaters find a discretionary hour each day. Take that hour and move it to necessary – your future career.

The key to changing your career is investing the time you need to do so. Put time on your daily calendar to do so. One hour a day transforms your career. Chip away an hour a day to realize your dream. Remember, you are the most investment you can make in success.
